If you’re looking to refresh your décor in the new year, there are a few new trends you might be interested in. Maybe you’ll be doing a total overhaul of a specific room or simply want to layer in a new piece, there are some great options available.

Many look to social media as a source of design inspiration. The following trends were sourced from a mix of design professionals on TikTok and Houzz—and they’re just a few of many. There’s truly something for everyone!

Statement furniture

Neutrals will always popular as they’re a versatile way to decorate. Most of us choose to introduce colour to our spaces through accents and accessories; in 2024, however, get ready to see some bolder choices being made. People will be less afraid of colour and will embrace the chance to express their personalities through their furniture.

The Wynora dining table positively shines with the sparkly and gleaming gold-tone finish of its metal hexagonal x-base. The upholstered chairs, sold separately, are done in a stunning blue colour that commands attention. This set is a great way to add impact to your dining room and avoid the cookie-cutter look.

You don’t often see desks that offer a splash of colour but the Mirimyn desk comes in a gorgeous teal hue that really sets it apart. The colour makes it more of a fashion statement and only adds to the piece’s classic trestle design. It has a heavily distressed finish that captures the essence of chipped paint; this is also on trend, as older, vintage pieces are in vogue again. The desk feels like it has a charming, salvaged quality.

Burnt amber

While typically thought of as part of an exclusively fall/autumn-themed colour palette, the deeper, richer orange known as burnt amber is making space for itself in interior décor year-round. Usually found in accents and accessories, this warm, inviting colour is welcoming in every season.

The Dovinton pillow features the warming colours of spice and looks particularly striking against beige, oatmeal and rattan—it offers just the right hue to both brighten and deepen your existing décor. It has a lovely stonewashed, striped design. The Rustingmere pillow is another option; it has a handwoven, textural, geometric design on one side and is solid on the reverse.

If you’re ready to introduce some colour underfoot, the Hartton large area rug offers a mix of tones—including the on-trend burnt amber. Its faux-faded medallion features cream, taupe, blue, teal, grey and green as well, so it is sure to coordinate seamlessly with your existing furnishings.

Fluted cabinetry

People are still craving more minimalistic spaces, but they want them to feel warm and inviting. One way to do this is to ensure your furniture pieces offer interesting details, such as inlays and fluting. These add visual interest and bring texture into your space.

The Breegin chair side end table is a perfect, subtle expression of this trend. This small, modest piece features inlay accents, fluted details and an oil-rubbed effect. The pewter-toned hardware only adds to its charm.

From the Vintage Casual® line, the Mirimyn accent cabinet, done in an antique white, features a distressed vintage paint finish, fluted details and French provincial mouldings. It has such elegance and character and is a testament to the power of quality craftsmanship.

Soft geometry

You’ll be seeing geometric patterns everywhere in 2024, if you haven’t started noticing them already.

Go big with flooring that fully embraces the look. The Jettner large area rug features clean lines, rich texture and modern flair. It is a warm and comforting faux-hide rug that is machine woven and very durable. The Adalock area rug has a similar texture and is a gray/cream mix. The modern geometric pattern is eye-catching and features sophisticated linework.

To add some geometry to your walls, you can’t go wrong with the Savane accent mirror. Place this stacked geometric design vertically or horizontally and hang them in multiples for added impact. Made of mirrored glass and an antiqued, gold-tone metal frame, the look is rich and elevated.

Furniture pieces that feature geometric patterns can be on the bolder side or more muted. The Kerrings accent cabinet is brown, black and white, with a carved Greek key design and black metal knobs. It’s an attention-getting piece. The three geometric patterned door fronts of the Elinmore accent cabinet make it a true standout. The warm dark brown is accented with gold-tone finish metal hardware and the open frame base serves as a nice contrast to the substantial cabinetry above. It’s a stunning piece that deserves to be shown off.
