Blind River Public Library has something for everyone this summer; from a book sale to outdoor activities and community initiatives, the library fosters learning, recreation, and camaraderie.

Jennifer Fortin, the CEO of the library, shared that the library's much-anticipated summer book sale is now in full swing, running until September.

For those seeking outdoor adventures, the library offers the Tackleshare program, allowing patrons to borrow fishing rods and tackle boxes for two weeks. Additionally, the library provides walking poles through the Urban Poling program, and 2023 Provincial Park passes to library card holders, encouraging individuals to explore nature's wonders while improving fitness.

Those with a green thumb may be interested in the Seed Library program. Partnering with the local Horticultural Society, people can take vegetable or flower seeds to plant in their gardens.

"We ask that some seeds are brought back so we can keep the cycle going for everyone to be able to plant a garden," Fortin said.

Other activities include a Storywalk along Woodward Ave. Starting June 12th, participants can pick up a map at the library and enjoy a stroll while reading a page of the story at each participating business downtown.

On the fundraising side, the library is raising money to buy an AED by selling survival kits, including first aid kits, burn kits, pet first aid kits, roadside kits and more.

"With our aging population and opioid crisis in the area, an AED device would be nice to have in the library and for Main Street," Fortin said. "You never know when a crisis will occur. Having an AED device on-site may save a life."
