Sometimes a room can be missing that certain something and it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it needs.

One of the easiest ways to bring a space to life is to introduce some new artwork and rearrange what you currently have. It can help you see and experience your spaces in a whole new light.

If you’re looking to shake up the art on your walls, consider these suggestions.

1. Plant vertically

Add a splash of colour and texture with plantings you hang on the wall. The Tobins wall planter could be home to your favourite miniature cacti and would make a stunning addition to any room. The half-moon shape is modern and the mix of three sizes lets you play with scale. This set comes with keyhole brackets for easy hanging.

The Dunster wall planter is a nice homey touch that can be hung indoors or out. The sculpted metal frame houses a single planter where you can display herbs, succulents, small plants or greenery.

2. Use mirrors to increase the light in a space

Take a break from the standard rectangular mirror and experiment with shape and colour in your decor. The farmhouse style Divakar accent mirror has a heavily distressed white finish that mimics the look of chipped paint. Mount this mirrored glass on the wall or lean it atop a mantel to catch the light and bounce it around your space.

The Deunoro accent mirror is an all-out attention-getter, a piece that wows with its gorgeous blue hue and exquisite flower frame. Its luminous metal petals give off a real shine and would look wonderful in an entryway, on a mantel or in a bedroom.

3. Go big with one large, substantial piece

When impact is the name of the game, go big! This Pancho wall art definitely makes a statement in black and white with its closeup of Scottish livestock. This Highland cow looking straight ahead, with his shaggy hair and prominent horns, is set against a backdrop of white negative space. This gallery wrapped canvas sits in a sleek black frame, ready to be hung, or leaned, in just the right spot.

4. Introduce texture

Hanging textiles on the wall is unexpected and changes the feel of a space, softening a room.

This Taylen wall art is a tapestry with a cord fringe, done in soothing, neutral tones. While this woven wall-hanging is boho-chic in style, it works well anywhere you want to introduce a bit of texture and whimsy.

5. Follow the signs

What more cheery way could there be to welcome guests into your home than with a sign that says as much? The Emalee wall decor, written in a happy, looping cursive, is a metal wall sculpture with a black finish that falls under the category of inspirational artwork. It works well as part of a larger gallery wall but stands just fine on its own too; “thankful” is another option.

6. Hang some sculptures

The category of metal wall sculptures is striking, one of our favourites, because of the minimalist look and high style. The Ellyse wall decor features a beautiful blossom design that adds depth and dimension to your wall space. We love how the look changes throughout the day as the light shifts and shadows play against it. These pieces, it should be noted, can be hung both indoors and out.

The Dorielle wall decor features warmer, age-toned metal that is outdoor-safe but can certainly be showcased indoors. It adds movement and a casually cool elegance to any vignette.

7. Keep time

Keep track of time with a clock that is also artful to look at and adds beauty to your wall. The Jazmin wall clock is the height of elegance, made of faux marble that contains gorgeous striations and is trimmed in a gold-tone finished metal. For a more open look, the Paquita wall clock features roman numerals on a sleek metal frame with an antiqued silver finish. It has a casual style and a commanding presence.

If you like accents with an industrial or more rustic feel, the Ana Sofia wall clock fits the bill. It merges a minimalist chic open design with an antiqued gray finish. It’s a unique piece that would suit multiple décor styles, including those that are more contemporary as well as vintage-inspired—it’s a bit of a shape-shifter that way. The raised numbers give it added dimension.
