Police say a suspect has been charged in connection with two thefts from the same Elliot Lake grocery store in two weeks.

On Feb. 8 at around 1:30 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were called to the store on Highway 108 in relation to a theft.

The complainant reported that a female had food items in her possession and left the store without paying for them, police said in a news release.

A description of the suspect and direction of travel was provided and the suspect was located and arrested a short time later, police said.

Police said the complainant had security camera footage of the same suspect stealing items on Jan. 25.

Jade Cyr-Schmitt, 26, of Elliot Lake, was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 - shoplifting. She is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 14.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Cyr-Schmitt is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
