Winnipeg driver stopped for driving too slow, impaired charges follow

He's accused of having almost three times the legal limit of alcohol

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES - On Dec. 8, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 in the Municipality of Huron Shores near Dean Lake Road.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., police observed an eastbound pickup on Highway 17 travelling at a slow rate of speed well under the posted 90 kph speed limit. As a result of the unnecessary slow speed, the officer conducted a traffic stop.

As the officer was speaking to the driver, the officer determined the male driver had consumed alcohol and observed an open can of beer in the front passenger seat. The driver was read the breath demand and registered a fail. The male was arrested and his vehicle searched. The officer located open several containers of liquor in the vehicle.

The male driver was transported to East Algoma Blind River detachment where the male provided two breath samples over 230 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

As a result of the investigation, Scott Wilson, 35 years of age from Winnipeg, Man. was charged with:
    •    Driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b)  of the Criminal Code; and with
    •    Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Jan. 10, 2019.
