Victim punched in face during incident at apartment complex

Police say the accused, who was wanted from a previous criminal harassment occurrence, was uncooperative and threatened officers before being arrested

On Sept. 12, 2022, at approximately 8:15 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an assault at an apartment complex on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake. 

The complainant reported just being punched in the face by a known person in the building. While police were on route to the apartment complex, the suspect was observed walking on Mississauga Avenue. The person was uncooperative with police and threatened officers. After a short altercation, police made a safe arrest. Additionally, the person was wanted from a previous criminal harassment occurrence.

Christopher Bielek, 44 years-old, of Elliot Lake, was charged with: 

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
  • Criminal Harassment - Repeatedly Communicate, contrary to section 264(2)(b) of the CC
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 13, 2022.
