Two OPP vehicles damaged when suspect flees police

The Cambridge man is accused of dangerous operation of a vehicle and fleeing from police

ESPANOLA - On Dec. 21, 2019 at approximately 11:37 p.m., officers from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol of Highway 17 in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township, Ontario, when they observed a traffic violation. Officers made attempts to stop the suspect vehicle, at which point it fled from them.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle a short time later on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township. Two OPP vehicles were damaged in the incident. 

As a result of the investigation, 48-year-old Jason Dyck from Cambridge, Ontario, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Flight from peace officer, contrary to section 320.17 of the CC;
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the CC;
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code - three counts, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec. 23, 2019, in Sudbury, Ontario.
