Two from Spanish face drug charges following traffic stop

NAIRN CENTRE - On Dec. 14, 2019 at approximately 12:14 a.m. members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint on Highway 17, McKerrow, Ont. The vehicle was located and stopped in the Nairn Township, Ont.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was suspended and in possession of suspected controlled substances.

As a result, Jimi Carrine, 40 years old, of Spanish, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
    •    Drive while under suspension (two counts) contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Shelley McAllister, 30 years old, of Spanish, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA.

Both accused persons were released on a promise to appear and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 20, 2019.
