Two facing charges following home invasion in Little Current

One of the two is facing multiple assault charges as well as car theft

On Aug. 2, 2021, shortly after 4:30 a.m., members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an assault that had occurred at residence on Highway 540 in the Town of Little Current.

Investigation determined the victim was home alone when an individual entered the home and physically assaulted the victim who sustained significant injuries. The person stole over $1,200 in cash and drove away in the victim's pick-up truck.

Shortly after 9 a.m., on this same date, police located the pick-up truck and initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Hardbargain Road and Boozeneck Road (Little Current) and arrested two individuals.

As a result, Bryant Jimmy, 41 years of age, from Assiginack Township was charged with:

  • Assault cause bodily harm, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC
  • Utter threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 334(a) of the CC
  • Robbery with violence, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the CC
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 355(a) of the CC

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on August 3rd, 2021 and was remanded into custody.

The passenger Marissa Case, 29 years of age, from Little Current was charged with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to section 355(a) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on September 15th, 2021.
