Two drivers face impaired charges on Manitoulin Island

MANITOULIN ISLAND - The Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two individuals in separate incidents with impaired driving.

On July 11, 2022 at approximately 9:05 a.m., the OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 540 in Robinson Township. Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined they had consumed alcohol. An approved screening device (ASD) was administered which resulted in a fail.

Ronald Brain, 68 years old from Silver Water, was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

On July 12, 2022 at approximately 12:15 a.m., the OPP were conducting general law enforcement duties including traffic patrol. Officers conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Highway 551 in M'Chigeeng First Nation. Upon speaking the driver, officers determined they had consumed alcohol. An approved screening device (ASD) was administered which resulted in a fail.

John Stewart, 56 years old from Sturgeon Falls, was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC.

Both accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Sept. 14, 2022.
