Two arrested on outstanding warrants in RIDE stops

Two individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants after being stopped at a festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.

On Nov. 28, at approximately 1:20 p.m. members of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a festive RIDE on Burns Crossover Road in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

A vehicle was stopped after it was determined that the driver did not have a valid driver's licence.

As a result of the investigation, Cecile Trottier, 30, from Espanola and Jordan LaMothe, 32, from Espanola were arrested on outstanding warrants. 

LaMothe was also charged with:

  • Drive Motor Vehicle - No Licence contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Operate Unsafe Vehicle contrary to section 84(1) HTA
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle contrary to section 12(1) HTA
  • Drive Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act (CCA)

The festive RIDE campaign is one of the OPP's most important traffic safety initiatives and runs from Nov. 17 to Jan. 2.
