Two accused of assault in Blind River

Police say one of the accused punched the victims through a vehicle sunroof

BLIND RIVER - On Aug. 13, 2020 shortly after 9 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two occurrences of assault stemming from an incident the day prior in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined two individuals were parked at the Four Sands Beach parking lot when [it is alleged that] an unknown person walked up to the vehicle and punched the two occupants through the vehicle sunroof. The two occupants in the vehicle fled the scene and attended the local gas station on Causley Street. Two pickup trucks simultaneously boxed in the complainants at the gas bar when another unknown person ran up to the same vehicle and punched the driver. The vehicle manoeuvred out of the boxed in position and attended Blind River detachment.

As a result of the investigation, Jonathon Dickinson, age 37 from Blind River, was charged with:
    •    Two counts of assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)

James Byerly, age 37 from Blind River, was charged with:
    •    Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Oct. 1, 2020.
