Transport driver charged with impaired on Hwy 17 in Algoma Mills

A transport driver was charged with impaired driving in Algoma Mills on the afternoon of Dec. 19, 2022

TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE - On Dec. 19, 2022 at approximately 4:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several traffic complaints of a blue tractor trailer all over the road and nearly hitting guardrails that was travelling westbound on Highway 17 from the Massey area.

At approximately 5:10 p.m., police observed the westbound blue tractor trailer on Highway 17 driving in the centre of the highway. A traffic stop was initiated near Lauzon Village Road in Algoma Mills.

As the officer was speaking to the driver it was determined alcohol had been consumed. The driver was arrested and transported to Blind River OPP detachment where further testing was conducted.

As a result, Roger Ouellet, 57 years of age from Drummondville, Que., was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Operation while impaired while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 2, 2023.

The driver was issued a 90-day administration driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
