Traffic stop results in weapons charges for Little Current driver

Police say the 36-year-old is also accused of speeding and driving while prohibited

ESPANOLA – On May 19, 2020 at approximately 2:25 p.m., an officer with the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a violation and conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 17 in Nairn-Hyman Township.

As a result of the investigation, Jordan Halliday, 36-years-old, from Little Current, has been charged with:   

  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code (CC);  
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the CC;  
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the CC; 
  • Speeding 1-49 Km/h over posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).  

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on August 10, 2020.
