Traffic stop results in impaired driving charges

BLIND RIVER - On Nov. 20, 2021 at approximately 5 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on general patrol on Causley Street in Blind River when they observed a vehicle depart a retail store with no lights on.

Police conducted a subsequent traffic stop on Laborne Avenue. The driver was spoken to who exhibited signs of impairment. An approved screening device was administered which resulted in a fail. As a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

Danny Bouillon, 25 years old from Huron Shores, was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
    •    Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
    •    Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 6, 2022.
