Traffic stop nets Blind River driver numerous charges

BLIND RIVER - On Nov. 6, 2020 shortly after 5:15 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 near Old Hydro Road within the Township of the North Shore.

A westbound car was travelling at variable speeds and the car lights were turning off and on. Police observed the vehicle on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River and initiated a traffic stop.

As a result of the traffic stop, Destiny Daybutch, age 23 from Blind River, was issued five provincial offence notices and charged with:
    •    Use plates not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
    •    Drive motor vehicle - no licence, contrary to section 32 of the HTA;
    •    Fail to have insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act; and with
    •    Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The vehicle was towed.
