Traffic stop leads to drug charges

ESPANOLA - On Tuesday, May 15, 2018 an officer from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic patrols of Highway 17 in Baldwin Township, Ontario.

At approximately 12:36 a.m., the officer observed a traffic violation and conducted a stop. Investigation revealed that there were suspected controlled drugs inside the vehicle. Police seized a quantity of suspected marijuana and suspected hydromorphone pills.

As a result, Nathan Waytowich, age 34, of Baldwin Township, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Driving While Under Suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act;
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance - Cannabis Marijuana - Under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and with
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ontario on June 18, 2018.
