CURTIN TOWNSHIP - On July 30, 2020 at approximately 5:21 p.m., members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver travelling north on Highway 6 from Manitoulin Island headed toward Espanola.
Police located the vehicle on Highway 6, Curtin Township and determined the driver was under the influence of a drug.
Further investigation by a drug recognition expert (DRE) was completed and as a result of the evaluation, the driver Ashley Allan, 32 years old of Billings Township was arrested and charged with:
• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Sept. 14, 2020.
