Traffic complaint leads to impaired driving charges

ESPANOLA - On July 13, 2019 at approximately 12:25 a.m., officers from the Manitoulin detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint on Centre Street in the Town of Espanola, Ont.

Officers located the vehicle and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation, Trevor Hanes, 23 years old from Espanola, Ont. has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code;
  • Operate a motor vehicle without Insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
  • Use plates not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero, contrary to section 44.1(3) of the HTA; and
  • No clear view to front, contrary to section 74(1)(a) of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Aug. 19, 2019
