Traffic complaint leads to impaired charges in Assiginack Township

ASSIGINACK TWP — One person has been arrested and charged following a traffic complaint.

On May 9, 2024, shortly before 2 p.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Clover Valley Road in Assiginack Township.

Police located the vehicle parked on South Bay Drive and upon speaking with the driver, determined the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, William Bell, 70-years-old from Assiginack Township has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to remain

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on June 18, 2024.
