Traffic complaint leads to impaired charges for Sudbury man

After stopping the suspect on Esten Drive North, officers determined the accused had consumed alcohol and marijuana

ELLIOT LAKE, ON - On June 27, 2020, shortly after 10 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint originating from Farrell Terrace in the City of Elliot Lake.

Approximately four minutes later, police located the pick-up truck on Esten Drive North and initiated a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver officers determined alcohol had been consumed and an overwhelming smell of suspected marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A query revealed the driver was also suspended.

As a result of the investigation, Sebastien Howard-Harris, age 24 from Sudbury, was charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC;
  • Have Care of Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act; and with
  • Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on August 4, 2020.
