Three Toronto residents, one local, arrested in Wikwemikong drug bust

A loaded handgun, ammunition and cash were also seized during Aug. 3 raid

Suspected drugs, weapons, and cash were seized and four people were arrested as a result of a search warrant in Wikwemikong.

Three people from Toronto and a local resident are facing a long list of charges after a major drug bust in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.

Multiple police services executed a search warrant at a residence on Genevieve Street on Aug. 3, according to a news release from the Ontario Provincial Police.

"A search of the residence led to the seizure of over 175 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 90 grams of suspected fentanyl, and over 14 grams of suspected cocaine," the release states. "The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $64,000. Police also located over $22,000 in Canadian currency, a loaded handgun and ammunition."

Below is the full news release from the OPP. None of the allegations have been tested in court and each person charged is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Four individuals have been arrested and charged with drugs and firearm offences in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.

On Aug. 3, 2023, shortly before 12 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Crisis Negotiation Team, OPP North East Emergency Response Team (ERT), and OPP North East Provincial Liaison Team (PLT) in conjunction with Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) and United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishnaabe Police Service (UCCM) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on Genevieve Street, Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.

A search of the residence led to the seizure of over 175 grams of suspected crack cocaine, over 90 grams of suspected fentanyl, and over 14 grams of suspected cocaine. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $64,000. Police also located over $22,000 in Canadian currency, a loaded handgun and ammunition.

As a result of the investigation, Keston Hinton, 21 years old from Scarborough has been charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine - two counts
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroine)
  • possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused was held in custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on August 9, 2023.

Brandon Kagige, 29 years old, from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory has been charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine - two counts
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroine)
  • possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was held in custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on Aug. 9, 2023.

Christian Kazaci Numbi-A-Nenge, 38 years old, from Scarborough was charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine - two counts
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroine)
  • possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The accused was held for Bail Court, then released with a new scheduled date to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory on Sept. 5, 2023.

A young person, 16 years old, from Scarborough has been charged with:

  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine - two counts
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroine)
  • possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • breach of firearms regulation - store firearm or restricted weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

The accused was held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Due to the provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the youth can not be identified.
