Police say a teen attempted to flee on his electric scooter before being arrested in connection with vandalism at a vacant property in Elliot Lake.

The East Algoma OPP said that on Sept. 15 they received a number of calls about vandalism at the vacant building on Spine Road.

A caller reported a youth breaking windows and attempting to gain entry, police said.

"Police attended and arrested the youth on his electric scooter attempting to flee the scene," police said in a release.

Police said they had previously responded to numerous trespassing and mischief calls at the same location.

The building has remained off limits to the public for numerous years, the OPP said in a news release.

A 16-year-old from Elliot Lake was charged with mischief under $5,000.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Sept. 16.
