Suspicious driving leads to impaired charges

On Nov. 27, at approximately 12:45 a.m. East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police officers were on patrol on Westhill Road in Elliot Lake.

Police observed a small blue car operating in a suspicious manner. The vehicle was stopped to check the sobriety of the driver. 

After speaking to the driver, police learned they were prohibited from driving and exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. 

A half full can of beer was also located in the cup holder.  

Subsequently, the driver was arrested and charged. The vehicle was also towed and impounded.     

Angela Pearson, 48, of Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Operation While Prohibited Under the Criminal Code - contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to section 42(1)(a) of the Liquor Licence Control Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 6.
