Suspect nabbed with 'plethora of stolen property,' police say

Offers called to Ottawa Avenue for man going through vehicles

ELLIOT LAKE - On Aug. 23, 2019 at approximately 2:51 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a male going through vehicles on Lisbon Road in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

The complainant reported that his unlocked van had been entered and the neighbour yelled at the male who ran away towards Ottawa Avenue. The complainant provided police with a detailed description of the male.

Police found a male matching that description on a pathway near Paris Drive. The male had a plethora of property in his possession that did not belong to him. In addition, police recognized the male from previous occurrences of the same fashion. The male was subsequently arrested and charged.

Dawson Lalande, 19 years of age from Elliot Lake was charged with:
    •    possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts), contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    fail to comply with probation order (four counts), contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC,
    •    theft under $5,000 (three counts), contrary to section 334(b) of the CC,
    •    assault a peace officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC,
    •    possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (two counts), contrary to section 355(b) of the CC.

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River, Ont. on Aug. 23, 2019.
