Suspect arrested after threats made against people, buildings

Police have made an arrest after an Elliot Lake resident "threatened numerous people and said they were going to blow up numerous buildings", the East Algoma OPP said in a news release.

On Sept. 6 at around 5 p.m. the East Algoma OPP crime unit and uniform members attended a residence on Tokyo Crescent in Elliot Lake to execute a warrant and arrest a person.

Police said on Aug. 31 they had received information regarding a person making threats towards people and buildings. 

"After an extensive investigation, a subsequent arrest was made and police confirmed the safety of all involved," police said.   

Police said they are not releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identify of those threatened.

A 56-year-old from Elliot Lake was arrested and charged with:

  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal (three counts)
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm (three counts)
  • Uttering threats - damage property (three counts)
  • Mischief - domestic

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Sept. 7.
