Sudbury resident charged with impaired in Baldwin Township

Police say the 59-year-old was 'erratically' driving on Highway 6; further investigation determined they had consumed alcohol

On July 14 at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 6. Officers were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers determined they had consumed alcohol. Officers used a screening device, which resulted in a fail, and the driver was arrested.

Dean Maceachern, 59, from Sudbury was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Aug. 22, 2022.
