Thomas Schell of Sault Ste. Marie has been arrested and charged in relation to a fatal hit and run that occurred in Sudbury on the evening of Feb. 1, states a news release issued by the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Police say that shortly before 7 p.m., a light-coloured Dodge Ram pickup truck struck a pedestrian on Walford Road and the driver fled the scene.

The 36-year-old victim was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

"As part of the ongoing investigation, officers applied for and were granted a Criminal Code search warrant for a residential property in Sault Ste. Marie," the release says.

Members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service executed the search warrant yesterday at a Walnut Street address where the pickup truck was seized and the 27-year-old accused was arrested.

Schell appeared in court today and stands charged with:
    •    Fail to stop after accident resulting in death
    •    Obstruct police
    •    Fail to comply with probation order
