Saskatoon driver charged with impaired in Elliot Lake

Police say the 34-year-old was stopped as part of a R.I.D.E. program

On Nov. 16, 2021, at approximately 1:20 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on Highway 108 in the City of Elliot Lake.

Police stopped a mid-sized Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) and spoke to the driver. An Approved Screening Device was utilized which resulted in a fail. Consequently, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was towed and impounded. 

Darryl Fournier, 34 years-old, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - Alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on December 7, 2021.
