An Elliot Lake property owner has been fined $25,000 on March 31, 2022 for various offences under the Ontario Fire Code as a result of a fire safety inspection. Once court costs are included, this individual will face more than $30,000 in fines and fees.

The city’s fire services found numerous fire safety violations at 99 Spine Rd. and as a result, charges were laid.

“Elliot Lake Firefighters enforce the Ontario Fire Code 365 days per year,” said Fire Chief John Thomas.

“As we see in this case, the fines can become substantial when corrective actions are not taken.”

The fire service says, “The goal of site inspections is to ensure occupant safety through education and enforcement of the regulations contained within the Ontario Fire Code and the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.”

The Elliot Lake Fire Service would like to remind property owners that they are required to be in compliance with the Ontario Fire Code at all times. Failure to do so can result in sizable fines.
