Police seize suspected fentanyl after cab rear-ended in Blind River drive-thru

BLIND RIVER - On Oct. 17, 2020 shortly after 12:15 a.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision (MVC) in the Town of Blind River.

Investigation determined a taxi cab was rear-ended by a small car while in a drive-thru at a local fast food restaurant on Causley Street. While on scene, officers observed the small car's front passenger [allegedly] passed out and the vehicle driver was incoherent. A small container of suspected fentanyl was located in the vehicle. Algoma District Paramedic Services attended the scene and transported both parties to local hospital.

Police served both persons with an appearance notice at the hospital and the driver was issued a 90 day administration driver's licence suspension (ADLS). The car was towed and impounded for seven days.

As a result of the investigation, the driver Nicolaus Wilson, age 22 from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and with
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The passenger Dustin Wilson, age 26 from Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Dec. 3, 2020.
