Police respond twice to deal with family member 'high on drugs'

25-year-old faces charges as a result

On April 25, 2022 at approximately 10:30 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an unwanted person related call at an apartment on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported that a family member who was residing with them was high on drugs and being unreasonable. Police attended and spoke to both people who now said everything was fine and nobody needed to leave. At approximately 1 a.m. on April 26, 2022, police were called back again because the complainant said another verbal argument ensued and they could no longer handle the family member. Subsequently, that person was arrested.

Trenton Richer, 25 years old of Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Fail to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on April 26, 2022.
