Police ask public to avoid Valley Crescent area (12 p.m. update)

12 p.m. update

OPP Constable Phil Young told ElliotLakeToday that the closure of the Valley Crescent neighbourhood in Elliot Lake continues.

Just before 6 a.m. today, police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Valley Crescent and secured the area to "ensure public safety."

Armed officers were called amid reports of possible weapons involved.

It is unknown how many people are in the home, Constable Young said.

On Nov. 15, 2018, at approximately 5:45 a.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were called to a disturbance at a residence on Valley Crescent in Elliot Lake, Ont. 

The OPP are requesting the public to stay away from the area of Valley Crescent, Cedar Place, Balsam Place, and Hemlock Place. This is to ensure police are able to carry out their duties effectively and safely. There is no danger to public safety.     

Assisting with the investigation is the OPP's Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team Members, East Algoma Crime Unit, Crisis Negotiators and the Critical Incident Command.    

The investigation is on-going and further information will be provided when it becomes available.
