Over $10,000 in drugs found in vehicle parked sideways on Blind River street

Ontario Provincial Police say they found over $10,000 when they searched a vehicle in Blind River Sunday morning.

Just after 7 a.m., police were told a car was parked sideways on Scott Avenue.

When officers went to check it out, they found the driver slumped over the steering wheel with the vehicle still running and in drive.

The driver and two passengers were arrested.

OPP say a search of the vehicle turned up a knife in a sheath and a baseball bat next to the driver's seat, suspected cocaine, a small amount of crack cocaine, prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia. 

The vehicle has been impounded.

The driver, 52-year-old Mark Carriere of Elliot Lake, was charged with:

• Operation While Impaired-Alcohol and Drugs
• Traffick Schedule I Substance-Cocaine
• Possession of a Schedule I Substance-other drugs
• Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition contrary to Public Order

He’s scheduled in court on September 7.

The front passenger, 40-year-old Zeth Laking of Elliot Lake, was charged with:

• Traffick in Schedule I Substance-Cocaine
• Failure to Comply with Release Order-other than to attend court (three counts)

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Blind River and was remanded into custody.

The rear passenger, 21-year-old Kaylea Hope of Elliot Lake, was charged with:

• Traffick in Schedule I Substance-Cocaine

She’s scheduled in court on October 5.
