SABLES-SPANISH RIVERS TOWNSHIP - One person has been arrested and charged with impaired driving following a traffic complaint in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
On Nov. 16, 2023 shortly after 11 a.m., members of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17.
Police were able to locate the vehicle and determine that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to the OPP detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation, Brent Dixon, 66 years old, from Port Colborne has been charged with:
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
• Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available
• Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 15, 2024.
The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
