OPP lay separate impaired driving charges two days in a row

In two unrelated incidents, one driver was charged with multiple offences after traffic stop and another was charged following collision on Highway 17

ESPANOLA - Two motorists were arrested for impaired driving two days in a row.

On Feb. 21, at approximately 3:35 p.m., members of the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a general patrol on Highway 17.

A vehicle was stopped for a Highway Traffic Act violation, and the driver was found to be driving impaired.

As a result of the investigation, Gregory Mullan, 32, from Angus was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Insecure load
  • Fail to mark overhanging load
  • Possess more than one licence
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

The accused's vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

On Feb. 22, around 10:55 p.m., members of the Manitoulin OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17. A pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer, causing debris to be scattered on the highway. No injuries were reported.

Police attended the scene, and upon speaking with the driver of the pickup truck, it was determined that they had consumed alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken to the detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Marc Tasse, 49, from Espanola was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused's vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Both accused persons are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on April 17.
