OPP arrest man in connection to two incidents in Elliot Lake

Accused is charged with break and enter, harassment, uttering threats and mischief after two separate complaints were reported

East Algoma OPP have arrested a suspect in two incidents in Elliot Lake.

Frank Smith is charged with break and enter, harassment, uttering threats and mischief after two separate complaints were reported.

The first involved the accused threatening to hit the complainant in the head with a hammer, while the second incident involved the accused breaking into a neighbour's house, brandishing a rock.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17.

On Nov. 16, 2021, at 8:25 a.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a break and enter at a residence on Farrell Crescent in Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported that a known neighbour had broken into their residence and was currently inside with a rock in hand. Police attended right away and met the person on the street who admitted to entering the complainant's residence. 

In addition, earlier that morning, the same person was harassing and threatening another complainant in a separate occurrence. The complainant reported the same person had threatened to hit them in the head with a hammer.            

As a result of these investigations, police arrested the person.

Frank Smith, 44 years old of Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House - Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Criminal Harassment, Repeatedly Communicate, contrary to section 264(2)(b) of the CC
  • Uttering Threats (Two Counts) - Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Nov. 17, 2021.
