One suspect arrested in relation to assault investigation

On Jan. 26, 2023 at approximately 12:15 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault call on Tokyo Crescent in Elliot Lake.

The complainant reported two known males had followed the complainant home. One of the males approached the complainant in the driveway and a verbal argument ensued. However, this escalated when [it is alleged that] the male punched the complainant in the face and a physical altercation occurred. The three then exchanged words and [alleged] threats were made before the two males departed. 

On Jan. 28, 2023, one of the two males was arrested and charged.

Patrick Barry, 28 years old of Elliot Lake, was charged with:
    •    Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on March 6, 2023.

Police are continuing the investigation regarding the second male. Additional information will be provided when it is available.
