One man charged in two Espanola theft investigations

ESPANOLA - On March 4, 2020 at approximately 10:14 a.m., members from the Manitoulin (Espanola) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a theft of tools complaint from a business in the Town of Espanola.

On March 18, 2020 at approximately 11:53 a.m., a peace officer with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) observed the accused with stolen items from another business in the Town of Espanola. Members of the Manitoulin OPP attended and assisted in the arrest of the accused.

Investigation revealed that the accused in both thefts, is the same individual.

As a result, Daniel Poulin, 62-years-old, from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Theft under $5,000 - shoplifting (2 counts) contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
    •    Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC.

The accused was released on two separate Undertakings and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on June 1, 2020.
