One killed in collision on Manitoulin Island, two others injured

MANITOULIN ISLAND – One person has died following a collision on Manitoulin Island.

Manitoulin OPP, Manitoulin-Sudbury Paramedic Services, and Assiginack Fire Dept. responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 6 in Assiginack Township shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

A 65-year-old from Assiginack Township, which is on the eastern end of Manitoulin, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said in a news release.

Two others were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was reopened after being closed for about six hours, police said. 

Investigation of the collision continues with help from the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team.

Police said further information will be released as it becomes available.
