No insurance, no permit leads to charges for Blind River driver

He will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 21

BLIND RIVER - On Oct. 17, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., an officer observed a car beside him on Causley Street with a temporary validation permit on the plate. The officer queried the plate which returned the plate as expired and a traffic stop was initiated.

The driver surrendered an insurance card with no vehicles attached to the insurance slip. A call was placed to the insurance company which revealed the male’s drivers insurance had been cancelled months prior.

As a result of the investigation, William Woolley, 65 years of age from Blind River, Ont. was charged with:
    •    Operate motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act; and with
    •    Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Nov. 21, 2018.

BLIND RIVER - On Oct. 15, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Highway 17 in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly before 4 p.m., police observed an eastbound car on Highway 17 and queried the plate. Investigation determined the female driver of the vehicle was suspended and a vehicle stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Lorraine Marier, 42 years of age from Aweres Township, Ont. was charged with drive while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Dec. 19, 2018.
