Nemi Township woman faces impaired driving charges

The accused was arrested after showing signs of impairment

NORTHEASTERN MANITOULIN AND THE ISLANDS - On March 20, 2022 at approximately 8:16 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an intoxicated person on Bay Street, Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands (NEMI) Township.

Officers arrived on scene but were advised that the individual had left. Officers patrolled the area and observed the individual in the driver's seat of a vehicle that was running. Officers began speaking with the driver of the vehicle. The driver was showing signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested.

Tiffany Opolko, 48 years old from NEMI Township was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of the Justice in Gore Bay on April 19, 2022.
