Medical distress call in Espanola results in fail to comply charge

42-year-old person from Azilda adds fail to comply to release order charge to charges stemming from domestic incident

ESPANOLA - On Sept. 24, 2020, at approximately 9:39 a.m. members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a person in medical distress at a residence in Espanola.

Sudbury - Manitoulin Emergency Medical Services (EMS) assisted and the subject was taken to hospital.

Further investigation by police at the hospital, revealed the person was breaching conditions from a previous release order stemming from a domestic incident.

As a result of the investigation, the accused, a 42-year-old from Azilda was charged with: 

  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a), of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in November in Espanola. 

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
