Trio faces charges including cocaine trafficking, possession of loaded restricted firearm after car stopped by police in Sturgeon Falls

Three people have been charged after police conducted a traffic stop.

On Dec. 21, at 12:14 a.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on Front Street, West Nipissing.

As a result of the investigation, three people have been arrested. 

A search of the vehicle located a firearm and drugs suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value over $12,000.  

Iesha Burke, 31, from Ottawa; Ashley Carter, 33, from Brampton; and Tasha Debassige, 43, from M’Chigeeng First Nation, were all charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, contrary to section 92(1) of the CC
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon, contrary to section 94 of the CC
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, contrary to section 95(1) of the CC

All three accused were held for bail court and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Dec.22, in North Bay.
