Manitoulin driver accused of being in possession of cocaine

MCKERROW - On Dec. 11, 2019 at approximately 11:54 p.m., officers of the Manitoulin (Espanola) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) on Highway 17, McKerrow, Ont.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was suspended and in possession of suspected controlled substances.

As a result, Dominos Manitowabi, 37 years old, of Wikwemikong Unceded First Nation, Ont. was arrested and charged with the following:

    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Operation while prohibited under Criminal Code (CC) contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) CC, and
    •    Drive while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA).

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 3, 2020.
