Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a man who was wanted on a warrant stemming from an incident over a year ago.

OPP say at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22, officers recognized the driver of a Jeep while on patrol along Highway 17 in the Thessalon area near Pine Ridge Road.

Police allege the driver tried to dodge officers by quickly turning onto Pine Ridge Road. They say when he reached the end, he abruptly stopped, got out and walked away, ignoring the officers' commands.

The driver was eventually arrested and the Jeep was impounded.

OPP say there was a warrant out for him related to a theft in May of 2022.

  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (three counts)

The accused was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on Friday, June 23.
