Man pulled over for speeding faces drunk driving charges

He is the 35th driver charged with drunk driving in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2021

SUDBURY, ON - On July 1, 2021, at 9:30 p.m., members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for travelling 50 kilometres per hour (km/h) over the speed limit in a posted 90 km/h zone on Highway 69, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

While speaking to the driver, it was determined the driver was impaired. The driver was arrested and transported Sudbury OPP Detachment for further testing

As a result of the investigation, Nicholas McGregor, 25-years-of-age, from Wikwemikong, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC
  • Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
  • Race a motor vehicle - Excessive Speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on both an Appearance Notice and a Provincial Summons and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on August 25, 2021, in Sudbury.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

This incident marks the 35th driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2021.
