22-year-old man killed in Sudbury sports bar shooting

Suspect still at large following Friday night incident at Overtime Sports Bar and Grill

Update at 1 p.m. April 22: A Greater Sudbury Police Service representative has clarified to Sudbury.com that there were no other injuries reported in the incident, aside from the 22-year-old man shot dead.

There was conflicting information regarding the description of the shooter from people at the scene, so images of the alleged shooter were released so people can provide unbiased information, according to the spokesperson.

A 22-year-old man was fatally shot at Overtime Sports Bar and Grill on Notre Dame Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday.

In a report by Greater Sudbury Police Service issued Saturday morning, it’s noted multiple men were involved in a verbal altercation leading up to one of the men shooting the victim.

The 22-year-old man sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

He succumbed to his injuries in hospital and was pronounced deceased by medical professionals.

The man police say was responsible for the shooting fled the area prior to police arrival. Images of him on video surveillance have been distributed to the public in an effort to track him down.

At around midnight, Greater Sudbury Police Service tweeted that there was a heavy police presence in the area and a K9 track was underway.

As of approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, police had yet to track the suspect down.

Police report this is believed to be an isolated and targeted incident, with no immediate threat to the general public.
