Man faces several charges after crashing into ditch

A man with an open beer can in the centre console of his car along with several more tins within arm's reach behind the passenger seat was arrested after driving his vehicle into the ditch on Highway 108 south of Elliot Lake, according to a police news release.

East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a call at about 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 20. Police spoke with the driver and reported a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, the release stated. The suspect was arrested and the vehicle impounded.

Tyler Lebrun, 27 from Elliot Lake, faces charges of:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC
  • Careless driving, contrary to section 130(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 42(1)(a) of the Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA)
  • Fail to remain, contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the HTA
  • Fail to report accident, contrary to section 199(1) of the HTA

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 6, 2023.
