Man charged after items stolen from grocery store, witness threatened

The East Algoma OPP say the made an arrest on Friday in connection with a robbery at a grocery store in Elliot Lake earlier in the week.

On May 21 at around 2:30 p.m., police responded to an incident in which a complainant witnessed a man leave the store without paying for numerous items, according to an OPP news release.

When confronted, the man threatened the complainant and continued to depart on foot, police allege.

The man's image was caught on video and he was recognized by police.

William Sinclair, 54, of Elliot Lake, was charged with "robbery with violence".

He was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Blind River on May 25.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Sinclair is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
